Cartier records first show a tortue case in 1912, and a women's model was produced in 1914 with men's watches following. The first Tortue Chronograph appears in 1925.
The Tortue Chronograph was constructed with an 11 ligne movement from European Watch & Clock Company that used 25 or 26 jewels and beat at 18,000 bps.
