Speedmaster-From Earth to the Moon and Mars...the Sky's the Limit At exactly 02:56 GMT on July 21st 1969, man first walked on the Moon! 
"One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" were the words of Neil Armstrong. After undergoing the toughest series of tests in the history of watchmaking, the Speedmaster Professional had been selected by NASA, in 1965, to accompany man's greatest adventure of all time, recording significant moments in the conquest of space. And, in 1970, this same chronograph was instrumental in rescuing the crew and craft of the Apollo 13 mission from disaster after an on-board explosion timing the rocket engine firing that sent them back to earth.
After five years of development and tests with astronauts and cosmonauts, in 1998 OMEGA introduced the new Speedmaster X-33, which is now standard equipment for NASA Space Shuttle flights, as well for the Russian MIR. In the new century, the world conquerors of outer space-along with hi-tech aficionados like Formula 1 race driver Michael Schumacher-will continue to rely on Speedmaster Professional.
