Patek Philippe Watches
Golden EllipseThe elliptical shape of the case is a synthesis of the circle and the rectangle. Yellow gold hands appear to float on the shimmering blue-colored 18K gold dial. When the Golden Ellipse by Patek Philippe celebrated its world debut in 1968, it was radically different from conventional watches. But unlike many short-lived fashion trends, the unusual shape was immediately appealing because of its perfect proportion. The ellipse is based on the Golden Section, a ratio discovered by mathematicians in ancient Greece that has since inspired many masterpieces of architecture and fine art. With its unique combination of audacity and equilibrium, the Golden Ellipse became one of the trendsetting Patek Philippe signatures and is still one of the most widely recognized styles today. Over the years, its timeless design has subtly evolved, mainly for jewelry watches, but the perfect elliptical shape remains its hallmark. In 2005, Patek Philippe pays tribute to its grand ambassador of classic elegance by introducing two men’s models that distinguish themselves with two new gold hues and refined dials. Golden Ellipse Ref. 3738/100R in rose gold with chocolate dial and brown strap. The sunburst chocolate dial is set within the rose gold case and accented by a high-gloss alligator strap in matching brown. Golden Ellipse Ref. 3738/100G in white gold with charcoal gray dial and brown strap. The sunburst dial is presented in charcoal with a white gold case and chic brown alligator strap. Golden Ellipse Ref. 3738/100J in yellow gold with 18K blue-colored gold dial and navy strap. The original retains all its freshness and originality. The yellow gold case, hands and indexes stand out against the 18K blue-colored gold dial – an exclusive Patek Philippe color introduced in 1968 – with a high-gloss navy alligator strap. All three models are powered by the ultra-thin, self-winding Patek Philippe caliber 240 movement with the Geneva Seal. The strap comes with a prong buckle in- rose, white or yellow gold matching the elliptical case. While the definition of male elegance may vary, the dandy is back. For the modern Beau Brummel, the Golden Ellipse is timeless and elegant, but its shimmering color dials make it feel unabashedly extravagant. Designed for aesthetes and true connoisseurs, the Golden Ellipse unites a seductive design with the incomparable quality of a movement in the great tradition of Geneva watchmaking. To complete the ensemble, Patek Philippe offers cufflinks in the Golden Ellipse style matching the case and dial colors of each model. Further Reading
