Perrelet Men's Watches

Jumping hour, big second hand at 6 o’clock, automatic movement

Thanks to its contemporary vision of premium mechanical watchmaking, Perrelet’s collection once again demonstrates that a high quality timepiece does not require a traditional display. On the contrary, this non-conformist attitude offers a temptingly different vision of displays that resets the boundaries of technology by demonstrating creativity and innovation.

Perrelet’s model with its P-191 calibre, which was developed in the finest watchmaking workshops in the Vallée de Joux, offers this «jumping hour» technology with a large aperture positioned at 12 o’clock. This aperture reveals the hour, which «jumps» as soon as the minute hand reaches 60.

This aesthetic line of Perrelet’s men’s collection has an off-centre minute dial. As a result, of this, the seconds at 6 o’clock are indicated in a much more imposing manner.

This special intriguing timepiece is available in four solid steel versions and two 18 carat rose gold versions. A limited, numbered edition of 100 pieces in Palladium 950 was also launched. It offers two special dial versions that have been produced exclusively for this edition.

Five minute repeater, two-tones, automatic movement

It was between the end of the seventeenth and the middle of the eighteenth century that the use of «repeater» mechanisms really took flight. Particular interest soon focussed on this mysterious timepiece, which could sound the hour at the simple press of a button. In times gone by when light was provided by candles, pocket watches that sounded the hour on demand were extremely practical. This resolved the problem of telling the time in the middle of the night. Later in 1892, Audemars-Piguet came out with the first wristwatch with a minute repeater. Due to their large size, repeater mechanisms were therefore reserved solely for pocket watches. Only a few rare brands and manufacturers offered wristwatches with repetition. Firmly emblazoned in the long history of watchmaking, Perrelet launched a unique innovation in this configuration: an automatic five minute repeater with central hours, minutes and seconds.

Perrelet’s five minute repeater, which is fitted with a movement P-201 calibre, allows you to trigger the repeater mechanism ‘on demand’ at the simple press of a push-piece (ideally positioned in line with 8 o’clock). An initial low-pitched tone (one stroke for the hour) sounds the hour, followed by two tones, one low-pitched and one high-pitched, which sound the five minutes (two strikes for every five minutes that have passed since the last hour).

This wristwatch with automatic winding meets Perrelet’s quality criteria, particularly in terms of water-resistance. However, the volume of sound is guaranteed by means of an ingenious «empty case» system, which offers a greater resonance compared to that of a standard case. This exclusive innovation in the world of watchmaking is offered in Platinum 950 as limited and numbered edition as well as in 18 carat rose gold. Due to the great complexity involved in manufacturing the movement, Perrelet will produce not more than sixty pieces throughout 2006. Aficionados and connoisseurs alike understand this perfectly as it is so difficult to offer a sound, a melody that keeps pace with the passing of time...
