AirmanGlycine started the production of the Airman models in 1953 and since then it has been a legendary watch. AIRMAN SST 06: The “Pumpkin” is back The original is in great demand on the collector’s market, the revival long yearned for: now Glycine presents the legendary AIRMAN SST in a new edition. With the beauty of the 60’s and the technology of today.
Its striking appearance is also the reason why it is lovingly called “Pumpkin“: the vertical black-grey divided dial is encircled by a pumpkin coloured rotating bezel. But the new SST is also available in two other variations, namely with an orange dial as well as blue degradé and black rotating ring. It is equipped with the ETA movement 2893-2, has a diameter of 44 millimetres, is watertight up to 200 metres and is available with a leather strap or steel bracelet. AIRMAN SST 06 D24: Rarity for Aficionados The unique brother of the AIRMAN SST 06 is the Double 24, the design of the case is also influenced by the “Pumpkin” from the 60’s. It simultaneously displays three optional 24 hour time zones – very seldom found on the watch market. This is made possible by the double 24 hour display from the centre, complemented by an independent rotating bezel which is set by a crown at two o’clock. If you turn the watch over you will find an attractive detail: the sapphire glass bottom reveals the subtly finished special movement 2424 where you can find the source of the name engraved on the golden rotor - a Boeing Super Sonic Transport (SST), the first planned (but never built) supersonic airplane. The AIRMAN SST D24 edition is limited to 300 pieces. It has a diameter of 44 millimetres, a non-reflecting sapphire glass and is watertight up to 200 metres. AIRMAN 7 Crosswise: The classic turned upside-down When speaking of Glycine one often means its best known figurehead: the AIRMAN 7. At its launch at the Baselworld 2002 it caused quite an uproar with its 53 millimetre diameter also later with limited series with diamonds, as well as last year’s version in gold.
“Its ongoing success gave us reason to develop the details even more“, explained Katherina Brechbühler. The most obvious change is the positioning of the three independent movements and the crowns – a mirror image of the existing model. The largest movement is now on the left, along with the large crown, which is newly screwed in. The AIRMAN 7 Crosswise is available in different variations, all with non reflective sapphire crystal. For example with Superluminova dial or fluorescent movement ring – in accordance with the pretence of Glycine, to develop functional watches that are easily legible. AIRMAN 9 – the all-encompassing aviator watch
Even in its 90th year, Glycine Watch SA of Biel continues to produce a unique synthesis of innovation, technology and tradition. Glycine is now presenting a smaller but completely equipped aviator watch, the AIRMAN 9, which uniquely combines all the features of a chronograph with that of a world time watch, and still boasts a respectable 44 mm diameter. The watch displays three time zones, two on the dial and one on the rotating bezel, enabling short time keeping of up to 24 hours. The AIRMAN 9 combines innovation, technology and tradition – the three central pillars supporting the company’s 90 year history. Each individually numbered AIRMAN 9 has a star engined aircraft engraved on the oscillating weight and is fitted with a finely finished rhodium plated ETA 7754 automatic movement. The AIRMAN 9 is water resistant up to 200 M, and is available in a variety of dials, with either a leather strap or double clasp stainless steel bracelet. AIRMAN Vintage V Limited: 50s Design Replete with state-of-the art Technology The appearance of the AIRMAN Vintage V 24-hour watch harkens back to the original pilot watches of the 50s – for instance, its rotating bezel, its hands, its trapezoidal date display with red numerals, and its reversed 24- hour imprint with the 12 on top – a genuine rarity. The watch’s dial is dégradé: the diurnal zone is on top and bright, and the nocturnal zone is on bottom and dark. So much for the subject of replicas... The technology behind this watch is another matter altogether. It is entirely in keeping with state-of-the-art developments and features a domed sapphire crystal and an ETA movement (2893-2). Furthermore, the watch is waterproof up to 200 metres and also features a glass base and a khaki-coloured rubber strap. The AIRMAN Vintage V has a diameter of 36 mm. The watch has been produced in a limited edition of only 150 pieces. Airman Special: The Original
The Airman Special is a watch for purists and Airman aficionados. Like the original Glycine world clocks of the 1950s, the Airman Special has a 24-hour display with two time zones. The watch’s dial is rendered accordingly: dark blue at the top for the night-time hours and light blue at the bottom for the daytime hours. The Airman Special has a diameter of 46 millimetres and comes with an ETA 2893 movement and a domed sapphire glass with magnifying lens. The watch is waterproof to 200 metres. Limited edition of 200 watches. Airman MLV: The Shining One
“This watch represents an extravagant extension to the traditional Airman Series,” says Katherina Brechbühler, CEO and Designer at Glycine Watch SA in Biel. With a diameter of 42 millimetres, the Airman MLV belongs among the smaller watches in the Airman family. The watch revives elements of the 50s and its date display is done in red. The Airman MLV runs on an ETA 2893 movement, has two sapphire glasses and is waterproof to 200 metres. Limited edition of 500 watches.
