The M9 adapts itself to each particular situation and provides relevant information while in action so that the user can concentrate more on his current performance and on making the right decisions. In a race situation, the unit gives you the advantage of a better start by delivering important starting sequence data such as line bias and other start line information. This leaves the user with more time to concentrate on boat handling while in the crowded starting area. After the start, the unit assists in choosing the right tactics for the individual legs and helps to make more use of the wind in order to optimise speed. While cruising, the unit delivers useful navigational information and helps to keep the boat on the correct course. The quick access to the MOB-feature allows quick reaction to a Man Over Board -rescue situation.

The Suunto Sail Manager software links the M9 to a PC and makes navigation much easier by visualising the routes on marine charts. It offers innovative tools for analysing the data that the M9 has registered and stored while in action. The Sail Manager helps to discover what in the user's performance needs to be improved, while also offering an exciting aspect of the sailed journey afterwards.
