It is earmarked for a training venue for the football tournament. Two other venues, Orlando Stadium and Dobsonville Stadium, both in Soweto, have also been set aside as training venues by the City. Located just a few kilometres from the central business district and a stone's throw from the Turffontein Racecourse. "Building the stadium started in January 2007 and involved constructing a new grandstand. Seating around the stadium has also been refurbished, with the old steel stands replaced and new chairs added." The stadium will seat 25,000 people. The main entrance to the grandstand opens into a hall, from where a lift takes VIPs to a spacious first floor lounge. Here, there are two bars and a huge kitchen, complete with all the facilities needed to serve hundreds of guests. To the left and right of the grandstand's main entrance are the changing rooms for players and match officials. Each of the two changing rooms has showers, a mini swimming pool for players to relax in and a well-equipped gym. The pitch is up to FIFA standards and will be similar to the pitches at Soccer City and Ellis Park stadiums.
