Congleton is one of the six districts which now form the County of Cheshire. Immediately to the south lies the large conurbation of North Staffordshire. The Borough of Congleton lies 19 km (12 miles) north of Stoke-on-Trent and 45 km (28 miles) south of Manchester. The M6 motorway passes through the Borough with convenient access points at Junctions 16,17 and 18. The Borough of Congleton is a compact area of approximately 207 km (80 square miles) with a population of over 87,000. The Borough has good economic growth, unemployment below the County average and a strong manufacturing base.
