(8 miles) east of Durham City , 16 km. (10 miles) south of Sunderland and 13 km. (8 miles) north of Hartlepool Named after a man, Peter Lee, who's vision it was to see a better way of life for the residents in the villages of County Durham, it has been written that since it’s designation on 10 March, 1948, Peterlee had developed into one of the North East’s success stories. The town has seen considerable change in the last few years, with the re-location of many of it’s public buildings to accommodate a £24 million town centre redevelopment.
