Guildford England
The historic town of Guildford is situated in a gap in the
North Downs carved by the River Wey. It’s location and excellent transport
links mean that Guildford has welcomed travellers for centuries.
Guildford is the County town of Surrey offering all the
richness and amenities of a city, with excellent shopping and entertainment,
but set in the heart of rolling countryside dotted with picturesque villages
and a wealth of gardens and historic buildings.
The Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
encompasses much of the surrounding countryside, it is a rich and varied
environment with opportunities for walking, picnics or just admiring the
views.
The River Wey navigations, which run through the centre of
Guildford, was one of the first rivers to be made navigable and Guildford
later became an important staging post for travellers by stagecoach between
London and Portsmouth, being midway between the capital city and coastal
port.
Now proximity to the M25 (nine miles from Guildford via
the A3), the major airports at Heathrow and Gatwick and a frequent rail
service from London Waterloo ensure that Guildford remains a vibrant and
cosmopolitan town, offering excellent facilities and easy access to both
business and leisure visitors.
