London E20 postcode - Home to the Olympic Park and Eastenders

For many years the postcode London E20 only existed fictionally as the suburb of Walford in BBC's soap drama EastEnders, but is now the postcode of the new London Olympic Park. The main Olympic Stadium postcode is E20 2ST. The postcode E20 also covers neighbouring areas including the residential apartments in the Athletes Village and Westfield Stratford City shopping Centre which resides at E20 1EJ. These latest additions to the postcode system have been introduced by the Royal Mail 150 years after the world’s first postcodes were introduced in London. Over 100 postcodes have already been allocated to developments across the Olympic Park, with each postcode covering up to 99 addresses. So far E20 1, E20 2 and E20 3 have been introduced with the option for sectors 4 - 9 to be incorporated, with up to 8,000 homes expected to be built over the next 20 years.

The creation of the new E20 postcode district will be a permanent residence for London's third hosting of the Olympic Games, and with the development of first of five planned new neighbourhoods to start in 2013, it ensures a unique and sought after location for home buyers, which will be renamed the “Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park” after the Olympics is over.

The popular BBC television soap opera “EastEnders” has been airing since 1985 and is set in and around “Albert Square”, located in the fictional London borough of Walford in London's East End with the (former) fictional postcode of E20 which is now home to the new London Olympic Park. Much of the drama revolves around the market place and the nearby pub the Queen Victoria or the “Queen Vic” as its affectionately referred to by the locals. Eastenders also has a fictional tube station, Walford East, which is located on the EastEnders tube map in the position normally occupied by the real Bromley-by-Bow tube station. The show is actually filmed at Borehamwood in north-west London.
