Wimbledon Tennis Tickets

Tickets for Wimbledon Tennis

Demand for Wimbledon tickets has, for many decades, exceeded supply. Despite increasing pressure to the contrary, the Wimbledon Club has always endeavoured to retain a significant number of tickets for the general public.

Buying Wimbledon tickets on the day of play

A limited number of Wimbledon tickets are retained for sale on the day of play to those people queuing at the Ground.

Approximately 500 tickets each, for the Wimbledon Centre Court (except for the last 4 days), No.1 and No.2 Courts, are specifically reserved for sale at the public turnstiles.

Ground tickets entitle use of the No.2 Court standing enclosure and unreserved seating and standing on Courts 3-19. Approximately 6000 ground tickets are available each day, depending on the number of people already in the grounds, the number of courts in play and the weather.

Joining the Queue

There are two queues for the turnstiles at Gate 3, one from the north and one from the south. Each queue has an equal allocation of tickets for Centre Court, No. 1 Court, No. 2 Court and Ground Admission. Please note that the queues can be extremely long. The weather can be changeable!

For a ground pass, it is usually necessary to join the queue several hours before the grounds open. For a show court ticket, many people choose to queue overnight to maximise their chances of being able to purchase a ticket for Centre, No.1 or No.2 Court.

Wristbands, marked by court and with a detachable 'court' tally, will be offered to queuers according to the number of show court tickets available. On reaching the entrance kiosk, the tally must be detached and handed to the cashier who will issue one ticket for the court on the tally.

Wimbledon Tickets are sold on the basis of one per person queuing and payment is by CASH ONLY.

Ground Opening and Closing Times

The grounds are usually open daily from 10.30am until one hour after close of play (no later than 10.00pm).
Non-Ticket Holders will not be admitted after 8.00pm.  Ticket prices are lower after 5pm.  Watching evening tennis can be the best option if you don't like long queues!

Entry at ANY time is subject to ground capacity. There are strict code of conduct rules.

ONE BAG ONLY PER PERSON WILL BE ALLOWED.  This bag must measure no more than 18. x 12" x 12" (45cm x 30cm x 30cm). Furthermore, NO HARD-SIDED ITEMS (e.g.: picnic hampers, coolboxes or briefcases) OF ANY SIZE WILL BE ALLOWED INTO THE GROUNDS.

There are NO left luggage facilities inside the grounds. Left luggage facilities are provided at a number of locations OUTSIDE the grounds for items exceeding these criteria and for any other items you do not need during the day.

Re-Sale of Tickets

All tickets, excluding debentures, are strictly non-transferable and must not be sold, nor advertised for sale, anywhere.

If you are unable to use the ticket(s) issued to you, please contact (prior to the day of play) the organisation from whom you purchased the tickets. In many circumstances, the AELTC, and those bodies to whom it issues tickets, are able to operate a flexible returns/refund policy.

Contact Details The Ticket Office is open for any queries:

Please phone 020 8971 2473 (or +44 208 971 2473 for overseas).

Buying tickets in advance for Wimbledon Tennis Championships

Debenture seat details are not available until late May each year. These are the only Wimbledon tickets which can be transferred legally; all other tickets are must be used by the original applicant. A small number of tickets are available for Corporate Hospitality and Overseas Package Tours through the Club and its official licensed agents.

The main proportion of Centre and No.1 Court tickets are made available through the AELTC Public Ballot, which includes a unique ballot for wheelchair users; applications open in August each year. Tickets are also available through the Lawn Tennis Association.

The Public Ballot has always been substantially oversubscribed. Entry into the Ballot does not automatically entitle applicants to tickets for Wimbledon, but a place in the draw for tickets.

Successful applicants are selected at random by computer. Furthermore, it is not possible to request tickets for specific days or courts, as the day and court offered are also chosen randomly by a computerised selection process.

To enter the draw you must first obtain an application form, from 1st August. (Requests postmarked after 15th December will NOT be processed).

Please send a self-addressed envelope to:

AELTC,
P.O. BOX 98,
London SW19 5AE
United Kingdom

Overseas applicants: Please enclose an International Reply Coupon where possible.

Wheelchair users: Wheelchair users have a separate ballot for Show Court spaces suitable for wheelchairs. Please request an additional Wheelchair form.

Conditions of Sale and Distribution of Tickets are to be found on the official Wimbledon tennis website: www.Wimbledon.org

The All England Club (operators of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship) has issued its strongest warning yet to potential buyers of Wimbledon tickets.

'Ticket holders are reminded that all tickets (except those with the word 'Debenture' printed on them in place of the price) are strictly non-transferable and must neither be sold nor advertised for sale whether on the Internet, in newspapers or elsewhere.

Do not be tempted to purchase non-Debenture tickets from such sources, especially Internet auction sites (eBay etc).

THESE TICKETS WILL NOT GAIN YOU ENTRY TO THE CHAMPIONSHIPS.'

Chris Gorringe, Chief Executive of the All England Club, said: "The message is quite clear. Tickets obtained via the public ballot and the Lawn Tennis Association are for the use of the original purchasers and should not be transferred for whatever reason. People tempted to buy such tickets should be under no illusion that they will not get in. The only tickets that are legally transferable are marked 'Debenture'. If you are in any doubt, please contact the Club's ticket office."

Note: Debentures Tickets

Source since 1920 from which The All England Lawn Tennis Ground plc derives its funds to meet capital expenditure. A Debenture is the purchase of a seat for a set period of years.

Without the financial commitment of the Debenture Holders, few, if any, of the capital projects at Wimbledon, such as the substantial improvements currently in progress under the Long Term Plan, would have been possible. Includes:

2006 - Redevelopment of the turnstile area, together with a new museum, museum shop, ticket office and the Club's new offices
2009 - Centre Court - Retractable roof, an increase in capacity, the installation of more comfortable seating for all spectators, and new and increased catering facilities

The most recent issue of Centre Court Debentures covering 2006-2010 cost £23,150 per Debenture at issue.

Resale of Debenture tickets is permitted and Debentures are freely tradable on the London Stock Market through market makers Barclays Capital Securities Limited.
