What time zone is Fiji in?

Fiji Standard Time is 12 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+12).  

Does Fiji observe Daylight Saving Time (DST)?

Fiji reintroduced DST in 2009 (source: www.fiji.gov.fj ). DST was scheduled to be in force from 2.00am 29 November 2009 until Sunday 25 April 2010 3.00am.

In 2010 the Government of Fiji Cabinet in Fiji decided to end DST about a month early on 28 March 2010 at 03:00.

The plan is to observe DST again from 23 October 2011 to 26 February 2012.  The end of daylight saving scheduled initially for the 26th of February 2012 has been brought forward to the 22nd of January 2012.

Prepare to advance your clocks one hour ahead of the Fiji standard time, because Fiji’s daylight saving period is to start from 23 October 2011.

Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Mr Filipe Bole made the Daylight Saving Order saying this initiative in Fiji has benefitted both the private and public sector over the years.

“People of Fiji are urged to take full advantage of the daylight saving period time because this allows more quality time for recreation and to be with family, while also increasing overall economic activity, work and agricultural productivity,” Mr Bole said.

Members of the public are reminded to change their time to one hour in advance at 2am to 3am on 23 October 2011.
