SANTIAGO - The Government (of Chile) announced 3 weeks delay in
the enforcement of the "winter time" to address the water shortage
affecting the country, so it shall take effect from Saturday 2 April
2011.
The announcement was made at La Moneda by the Minister Secretary
General of Government, Ena von Baer.
The measure is aimed at making better use of sunlight, amid the
tight electricity supply.
This is the second consecutive year that the authorities decide to
postpone the commencement of "winter time".
In 2010 it (the Chilean government) adopted the same extension after
the earthquake that affected much of the country.
Thus, at 24:00 (midnight) on Saturday 2 April 2011, the clocks will
go back hour, becoming 23:00 (11pm) the same day.
Meanwhile, on Easter Island and Salas y Gómez Island will do the
same, but at 22.00 (10pm) on Saturday, becoming 21.00 (9pm).
This schedule will last until the second Saturday in October 2011 (8
October 2011). |
A triangle of volcanic rock in the
South Pacific - it is best known for the giant stone monoliths, known as

Henua" (Navel of The World). Admiral Roggeveen, who came upon the island on
Easter Day in 1722, named it Easter Island. Today, the land, people and
language are all referred to locally as
Rapa Nui.
