Kentucky
is one of the border states of the S central United States. Kentucky is bordered
by West Virginia and Virginia (E); Tennessee (S); the Mississippi River, across
which lies Missouri (SW); and Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio, all across the Ohio
River. (W, N).
The Commonwealth of Kentucky became the 15th U.S. state when it was admitted to the U.S. in 1792.

The Ohio River forms the entire northern boundary of the state, flowing generally SW below Covington, until it joins the Mississippi River west of Paducah. At the southwest tip of the state about 5 sq mi (13 sq km) of Kentucky territory, created by a double hairpin turn in the Mississippi River, protrudes N from Tennessee into Missouri and is entirely separate from the rest of the state.
The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site and Cumberland Gap National Historic Park are historic landmarks. At Fort Knox is the U.S. Depository.
Frankfort is the capital of Kentucky; Louisville and Lexington are the largest cities.

Like most states in the U.S., Daylight Saving Time is observed in Kentucky, where the time is shifted forward by 1 hour, resulting in a 4 hours and 5 hours difference behind GMT for the Eastern and Western part of Kentucky respectively.
After the Summer months the time is shifted back by 1
hour resulting in the normal time difference with GMT.
