On the shores of Jamaica Bay, 15 miles (24 kilometres) southeast of downtown Manhattan, John F Kennedy International (JFK) is New York's busiest airport handling over 30 million passengers each year.
Beginning in 1948 as just one general terminal on 1000 acres of the Idlewild golf course, JFK international Airport has grown to nine terminals and now covers over 5000 acres.
Currently undergoing a multi-million dollar development program, including a major redevelopment of Terminal Four (the international terminal) and a new road and light rail system, JFK International is one of the country's top airports serving the world's airlines.
